Dear wife,

I have just arrived at Ellis Island, I am one of many immigrants looking for opportunity in the US, there are lots of us here waiting for registration. Hopefully I can find a good job and try to be successful here. That is the American Dream. I never want to go back to Ireland, ever since the recent famine and economic depression. Unfortunately, I have heard that there is a shortage of jobs here and that it will be hard for me to find one. Hopefully, I will be successful here and you can join me.
