Theses colonies were ceded by Great Britain in 1783 after the War of Independence was waged between the 2 countries. The Americans were helped by the French and the statue of Liberty was given by the French to the Americans to commemorate the centennial of the American Independence 100 years later.

The Vast territory west of the Mississipi which used to be called Louisiana was bough  from France. Indeed Napoleon needed money to finance his european Wars.

Texas was annexed in 1845 

The territory west of Texas was partly purchased  from Mexico or ceded by Spain or Mexico. These territories, as well as Florida, were mostly gained through Wars.

The Oregon territory was given to the USA by Great Britain. A treaty was signed between the 2 countries .

Alaska "was sold" to the USA by Russia in 1867 and Hawaii "was annexed" in 1898.

To sum it up, most of the USA "was built" through force.

Concerning the Native Americans who had lived on the American continent for thousands of years before the Europeans settlers arrived, their territories was lost , their way of life and culture was destroyed and they were only given the American citizenship in 1924.
